Maths Dice Game

As a part of our maths lesson today we played 2 Maths games. The Maths games we were playing is called Dicey Operations, In this game you had to have at least 2 or 3 people in a group to play and 1 dice each. Here are the instructions in playing Dicey Operations. Make sure you have two or three people in a group and to have at 1 dice per person or have one to share along.

Dicey Operations
We are learning to add and subtract using whole numbers and decimals

Today we will be playing a couple of add/sub games using dice.

Game One - Race to 1000
Draw up a 3 by 2 grid (see below) and throw the die 6 times. You need to decide which cell to put each number into give you a total closest to 1000. The person who gets the closest to 1000 wins.

(Example; Number below)

5
6
4
4
3
2

(Example; You could mix it or add or subtract)

Game Two:

Just like before, you will throw your dice to give you 6 numbers.  Your aim is to come up with the sum that will give you the smallest and largest answer, using addition and subtraction. You can only use the numbers that you have rolled. You don’t have to use the grid this time.

I learnt that you could mix the order of the numbers up to get the highest numbers or the lowest numbers shown when you roll the dice.
